Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Pierre Yan said he wasn’t going to help his oldest son qualify for a football school through his connections.
Yan was the UFC bantamweight champion from 2020 to 2021. The fighter, who lost his last three fights, lives and trains in Yekaterinburg. Yan plans to return to the Octagon in March.
— You have changed the composition of coaches and corners several times. Who would you like to start this preparation with?
— I changed the composition of coaches and corners several times because my corners did not have a visa. As the fights took place in the USA, we had to work with those who had visas.
—Who would you like to start preparing for a fight with?
– With myself. Of course you need to build a team, but it will all depend on who the fight is, and build a team based on that.
— Khabib Nurmagomedov told me he would teach his son to fight. Will your son go boxing, will you train him?
— Less than 10 years, in principle, it’s not worth it. Of course, I try to make adjustments. The youngest son is three years old, he goes to gymnastics, he likes it, he really wants to go. It probably has something to do with the coach. The eldest is seven years old, he did judo for two years. And lately he started saying he wanted to go to football. I said, “Well, go ahead.” I called, there are 50 people to fill the place. I told him: “If you pass the selection, you will go, I will not push you to enter”. If I help, we’ll once again have a whole list of guys who can’t play. We bet on some things, and now he’s waiting for this day.
— How do you behave if someone cuts you off in Yekaterinburg and starts honking?
– In fact, I drive very carefully now, I don’t run, and such cases have not happened for a long time. And of course, if this happens, I will not react in the same way that I might have reacted five years ago, ”the correspondent reports, reporting Yan’s words.
