McGregor on Dublin riots: ‘I don’t condone the looting, but I understand a step needs to be taken for change to begin’

Former UFC champion in two weight categories Conor McGregor said he did not support the actions of the rioters in Dublin, but stressed that change was needed in the country.

On Thursday afternoon, passers-by were attacked in the Irish capital. Five people were injured, including three children; a woman and a five-year-old girl were seriously injured. The attacker, who according to media reports was helped by passers-by to be arrested, also received help. After unconfirmed reports emerged that the attacker was from Algeria, riots broke out in the city. At least one police car was set on fire, demonstrators began throwing fireworks at law enforcement and store windows were smashed. Police Commissioner Drew Harris said the protesters were “a group of crazed hooligans driven by far-right ideology.”

“I do not condone last night’s riots. I do not condone any attacks on our first responders while they are on duty. I do not approve of thefts and attacks on stores. What happened last night did not help solve the problems we face. However, I understand the frustration and I understand that steps need to be taken to ensure the change we need begins. And quick!

Trust me, I have tactics and support. There will be change in Ireland, believe me. Necessary changes. Last month, innocent children were stabbed as they left school. Two men were beheaded. This is not the future of Ireland! “If they don’t adopt their action plan to keep Ireland safe soon, I will,” McGregor wrote on social media.
