Teofimo Lopez turned down offer to fight Ryan Garcia due to low pay

The WBO junior welterweight belt holder intends to fight around the world in the future.

WBO world junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez stated that he rejected the offer of a fight with Ryan Garcia due to low fees. According to Teofimo, the fight was planned to take place in early 2024.

“When you’re the best, when you’re the cool guy, when you attract big sponsors, big business deals, and you offer me a share of $1.5 million, fuck you. So yes, I declined the offer.”

“What awaits me is a global takeover, that’s what will happen next. I want to go to Italy, I want to fight in other places. I have a lot of fans in Africa too, I want to go there. My goal is to make it global because no one else is going to help me in my boxing game.”

In June, Teofimo announced that he was retiring from his boxing career and relinquishing his championship title. Later, the American changed his mind about leaving boxing and declared his readiness to defend his belt. Lopez managed to challenge the absolute world lightweight champion Devin Haney.

In his last fight, Lopez defeated Briton Josh Taylor. Following the results of 12 rounds, the judges unanimously awarded the victory to the American – 115:113, 115:113 117:111.

Former WBC interim champion Garcia lost by knockout to Gervonta Davis in his last fight. The fight took place at an intermediate weight of 61.7 kg. The American planned to have his next fight against Mexican Pedro Campa, who had previously lost to Lopez.
