“I consider myself the best boxer, not only in Russia.” After defeating Papin, Asbarov names his next opponent

Soslan Asbarov is an international master of sports in boxing. The fighter gained his popularity through his bare-knuckle performances, although he was always drawn to professional boxing. And in this discipline, Asbarov (5-0, KO 1) managed to reach great heights. He has six victories among the pros, including a triumph over Dmitry Kudryashov. And at the end of October, Asbarov, being a clear outsider, confidently defeated another Russian heavyweight boxer, Alexei Papin. Today, Asbarov, according to BoxRec, ranks second among Russian cruisers, just behind 2016 Olympic champion Evgeniy Tishchenko, who is moving up in the category. Asbarov is also ranked 18th among all heavyweight boxers.

The victory over Papin turned out to be really noisy, but after this success Asbarov disappeared from the media field. A correspondent spoke with Asbarov, and this conversation began precisely with this observation. You can also discover during the interview:

“YOU HAVE BEEN SILENT, DID YOU NOT?”

– Soslan, you emerged victorious from such a noisy clash and then disappeared. For what?

—You caught the silence, didn’t you? (Laughs). I go out and declare myself, I show high-level fights, I get victories and I go into the shadows in anticipation of the next high-level fights.

— Well, it was possible to develop this success in the media. Or didn’t you think so?

– It’s not that it’s not necessary… I just don’t run it. No such task existed. My trainer and I decided not to shake anything, but to prepare for the next high-level fights.

— Immediately after the fight, directly in the ring, you asked your trainer Ali Piduriev to forget your phone number for several weeks. Managed?

“Ali prepared me for the fight all the time, controlled me and monitored me – at home, on the street and in the gym. Yes, I myself have been accused of this confrontation. And Ali, yes, somewhere he didn’t let us eat sweets, he monitored the diet. Before the fight, I also told him: “Ali, after the fight, I want to block your number for at least two weeks. But in the end, it didn’t work. It was a joke, we are in contact every day. And so I rested for three weeks, but I still go to the gym and work out.

— Did you read the comments, because after your victory over Alexei Papin, many began to perceive you differently – much more seriously. Some perceived your triumph in the fight against Dmitry Kudryashov as an accident.

— I don’t read the comments much, but I admit I saw something similar… Many didn’t count on my victory. I’m glad I was able to show my skills, Alexey Papin and I managed to show a good fight. It seems to me that such fights have not happened for a long time in the sense that media and sport intersect.

— Do you consider yourself the best heavyweight boxer in Russia?

— I consider myself the best not only in Russia, but in the whole world. We’re getting there. Our goal is to compete for the title of world champion, so it is difficult to name specific names.

“IN JUNE-JULY I PLAN TO MEET ALEXEY EGOROV”

— The WBA champion is Arsen Ghulamiryan.

– Well, that’s where we’re going.

— In Russia, there are still boxers like Evgeny Tishchenko and Alexey Egorov.

– Evgeniy Tishchenko will box in a different weight category (in the bridge weight for the WBA belt on December 9 in Dubai against the German Leon Hart – “”). Alexey Egorov has to fight, and then… I could fight Alexey Egorov. There are some proposals, we have already talked about them. Yes, there are some nuances. Therefore, we will announce everything later.

— Alexeï Egorov has a fight scheduled for December 16 in Moscow as part of the Russia-United States meeting, then a fight is scheduled for February at RCC Boxing Promotions.

— As far as I know, he has an exhibition fight in December. Then in February – yes, then in June-July, I think we will fight it. I want to fight in March, but I don’t know my opponent yet. But we are talking about IBA tournaments. We will consider everything.

“I WILL ONLY RETURN TO KULAKA IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FINANCE”

— On your list of desired names, there is still a place for Murat Gassiev, who lost to Swede Otto Wallin in his last fight.

— Everyone asks questions about Murat Gassiev. If the public is interested, if they are interested, then go for it. It would be a noisy and media fight in Russia.

— Are you ready to take revenge on Alexei Papin, or is this a page already passed?

“For now it’s a finished page, and then anything can happen.” For now, I have a different direction and goals. Now I don’t see the point in this revenge.

— Are you now a full-fledged boxer or will you continue to play bare-knuckle?

— I was a full-fledged boxer. Fisting was my rise to boxing. After amateur wrestling, I returned to boxing and now compete professionally.

—Are you going to continue fighting with your bare fists?

– Only if they are interested in finance, I will come back. It doesn’t exist yet. Will watch.
