Maxim Grishin: “I’m upset that I can’t meet Shtyrkov, but in December I will have a good opponent”

Former UFC fighter Maxime Grishin said he could not meet the Russian Ivan Shtyrkov during December’s RCC 17 tournament, and also evaluated a new opponent.

Initially, Grishin’s opponent for the December 15 fight in Yekaterinburg at the RCC 17 tournament was supposed to be Shtyrkov. But the 35-year-old fighter previously told that due to injuries sustained in a November 18 kickboxing bout with Vladimir Mineev, he would not be able to fight. As a result, Grishin will meet Asyljan Bakytzhanuly from Kazakhstan on December 15.

— Preparations are nearing the final stage. We were preparing for Ivan Shtyrkov, but unfortunately we won’t be able to meet him, that’s why I was upset. But I want to say that my next opponent, Asyljan, is quite strong and the preparation for his style was in our favor. I need a victory, I want to win, especially since it will be the first fight in our country and I haven’t competed for a long time. I am very happy that the RCC league is interested in me. Asylzhan always moves forward, throws a lot of punches and has an aggressive fighting style. I accept his style and I will catch him, the smartest one will win,” Grishin told .

Grishin (32-10-2) has been competing in American promotions since 2018. In the UFC, he had five fights, winning two and suffering three defeats. In June, the Russian lost to Brazilian Filipe Lins by unanimous decision. Bakytzhanuly’s record includes 16 fights, 13 victories and three defeats. He fought four fights in the RCC promotion, including against Ivan Shtyrkov.
