The absolute champion decided to compete in a heavier division and win the title here.

Devin Haney vacated all the lightweight titles. The now former absolute champion officially announced this in a speech.

The American boxer decided to vacate his belt before the fight with WBC welterweight title holder Regis Prograis, which will take place on December 9 in San Francisco.

“I did my best at lightweight. My biggest fight there was against Gervonta Davis. But since there was no desire for his fight to happen, I decided to continue my career in the next division. I passed the lightweight division, so now I will move up to junior welterweight to become a two-division champion.

After this fight, I hope to become a champion in three divisions and move up to welterweight, if, of course, God willing, I will succeed in this fight,” ESPN told Haney.

Note that Haney’s statement was more formal, as due to Devin’s refusal to defend his lightweight titles, several belts had already been played by other boxers.

The WBC title was won by Shakur Stevenson, who recently defeated Edwin De Los Santos. Gervonta Davis holds the WBA belt.

Vasily Lomachenko and George Kambosos are set to fight for the IBF champion next spring.

Lomachenko is also the first contender for the WBO title, but is expected to go the other way for now. Denis Berinchik and Isaac Cruz could compete for the vacant belt.
