Judoka Ayub Khazhaliev told that his team “Akhmat” from Grozny gave their best, winning gold medals in the Continental League finals without having the best athletes in the lineup.
On Saturday, the Akhmat team won the competition which took place at the International Sambo Center in Moscow. Khazhaliev competed in the weight category up to 73 kg and lost to Shakhram Akhadov (Ural – Western Siberia, Yekaterinburg) in the final match.
“I would give ten points to the team’s performance, considering that we were deprived of two top athletes – Mansur Lorsanov and Tamerlan Bashaev. The team did well, I am happy that we won. Personally, I Didn’t wrestle well, had some injuries that might have gotten in the way. It will work.
— That’s why Tepkaev (81 kg) fought in the weight category up to 90 kg?
— Yes, we had Ikhvan Edilsultanov, but, in my opinion, he had a partial ankle rupture. We wanted to test him from the first fight, he won it, but it was a little difficult for him. Turpal Tepkaev volunteered to fight in his place. As you can see, he beat last year’s Russian champion.
– What didn’t work for you?
— The team has its own atmosphere. You have to worry about everyone, it’s more fun and harder together.
— Have you watched the results of the Grand Slam stage in Tokyo? What can you say about Russian judokas weighing up to 73 kg?
“I just woke up this morning and looked around. Lavrentiev is doing well, he has strong motivation and endurance, but he needs to improve his throws, without this there is nowhere in judo. But Makhmadbek was unlucky, he is in excellent shape,” Khazhaliev told .
