The fight will take place at super middleweight
Undefeated Mexican boxer Jaime Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) will fight his next fight against the British John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) January 27.
The fight will take place in Phoenix, Arizona. This will be Munguia’s first fight at super middleweight, having previously fought in the super middleweight and middleweight divisions as a Mexican.
Munguia views the event as preparation for a future fight with undisputed world champion Saul Alvarez. The WBO, which is ready to appoint Jaime as the mandatory challenger for Canelo’s belt, warned that a title fight is unlikely to be held before the end of 2024 and advised organizing preliminary fights to maintain shape.
Munguia defeated Ukrainian Sergey Derevyanchenko in his previous fight. At the end of 12 rounds, all three referees gave the victory to the Mexican boxer.
The rider claimed the WBO super middleweight belt in May. Saul Alvarez defeated the Briton by decision and retained the title.
