Soloveitchik on the Continental Judo League: “When the curtain opens, it will be one of the most popular and spectacular tournaments in the world”

President of the Russian Judo Federation Sergei Soloveichik told that he plans to develop the Continental League, which could become one of the best competitions on the planet.

On Saturday, the final of the Continental Judo League took place at the International Sambo Center. The Akhmat team from Grozny became champions.

“It’s a promising competition that we want to develop. The theme of club competitions has become more relevant. When the curtain opens and relations are restored, it will be one of the most popular and spectacular tournaments in the world. It is certain that in the near future in our country more conditions will be created for the development of club competitions, as they gain popularity. It is important that businesses have the opportunity or incentives to run clubs. It is now being talked about in sports circles that it is necessary to create conditions, like in the Soviet Union, when companies had their own teams in different sports, they would be the face of these companies.

— Tell us about the expansion of the Continental Judo League tournament.

— These competitions are still young, they will develop. Every year there will be more and more people ready to participate, so it is necessary to expand the grid: the regions will organize their own stages, then the interregional stages, then the finals.

— Will there be anything other than the Continental Judo League?

“We want to completely finish these competitions first. When we are satisfied, we will move on to the next ones. Of course, we have judo leagues for kids, for all ages,” Soloveichik told .

In October, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the ROC’s membership in the organization due to the inclusion of the Olympic councils of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions in the ROCK. It was reported that the IOC reserves the right to decide on the admission of individual Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the 2026 Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in neutral status.
