Former UFC champion in two weight categories Conor McGregor has hinted on social media that he is considering running for the Irish presidency.
The fighter previously spoke about the riots which broke out in Dublin in November after the attack on a woman and children. Today, McGregor, 35, listed his possible opponents in the presidential race and explained why it’s worth voting in his favor.
— Potential competition if I run. Jerry (Adams), 78 years old. Bertie (Aherne), 75 years old. Enda (Kenny), 74 years old. Each of them is inextricably linked to the politics of their party. These parties govern themselves, not the people.
Or me, 35 years old. A young, active, passionate and fresh character in the game. I’m listening. I adapt. I have no bias/favoritism towards any party. It would not be me who would be in power as president, but the Irish people. It would be me and you,” McGregor wrote on social media.
McGregor has 22 wins and six losses in mixed martial arts; the Irishman previously held the UFC championship belts in both the featherweight and lightweight categories. He fought his last fight in July 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier by technical knockout.
