The IBA reiterated that dual membership is not possible for national federations that decide to join World Boxing.

International Boxing Association (IBA), led by Umar Kremlev has once again appealed to national federations warning them that joining World Boxing carries certain risks.

In June, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) accepted the recommendation of the organization’s executive committee not to return recognition to the IBA because the association had not fulfilled the necessary conditions put forward in December 2021. The IOC Executive Board also recommended to the session “in the interest of athletes and sport” that boxing be kept on the program for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in line with previous decisions. At the same time, the world boxing organization was created, which already included a number of countries.

— The IBA does not accept dual membership. Once again, we reiterate that dual membership is not something that the IBA accepts or considers.

We have seen the Dutch FA, which is currently a suspended member of the IBA, publicly acknowledge the uncertainty associated with leaving the IBA given limited competition and financial support. These are the main reasons why well-run national federations are reluctant to make hasty decisions and leave the IBA, given the lack of concrete action from this rogue organization.

Today, IBA offers all the opportunities, but not the alternative organization. The IBA has provided a budget for the next four-year cycle, which includes all IBA activities, the Prize Fund, the Financial Support Program (FSP) and various development initiatives. Additionally, there is no guarantee that an alternative organization will be recognized by the IOC, as the process is quite long and complex.

The IBA continues to be the home of boxing for its five confederations, which include nearly 200 national federations and thousands of boxers, coaches and officials from around the world. The organization does not prohibit anyone from participating in the Olympic Games or Olympic qualifying events and welcomes all boxers and officials to IBA events, regardless of their national federation status.

The IBA remains the only international governing body for boxing. We will protect our athletes and defend our 77-year history and positive achievements,” the organization said in a statement.

The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
