“The salary was 300,000 rubles a month” – an MMA fighter spoke about his work as a bodyguard

Russian MMA fighter and master of sports in boxing in an interview with , he spoke about his experience working in the field of personal security.

The 23-year-old Golub fighter will next fight in Moscow against former UFC fighter Khadis Ibragimov. The heavyweights will perform in a boxing match wearing MMA gloves. Previously, Golub was a contract soldier, having fulfilled the standards of a master of sports in the army. He also worked in personal security.

— You said that after the army, you went to work in the private armed security of a rich man. This has always been interesting: is a security guard really ready to sacrifice himself for the good of the protected person?

— Answer yourself this question: Would you protect a random person on the street in the event of a shooting? I don’t know how many people would be willing to die for another, to be honest. It seems to me that people join security for the money and that’s it. I know there were shots fired and someone was hit. But I didn’t have anything like that. The salary there was 300,000 rubles, I treated money calmly: I paid rent, bought food and tried to save 150-200 thousand rubles. I understood that this work was not endless, I wanted to make a career as a fighter, even while working, I trained and managed to save a little money.

— What are the duties of a security guard?

— We worked two hours after two. For two days of your shift, you must be three minutes away from the boss. At night you sleep in the same house, you have to get ready in just three minutes. If you don’t have time, you’re fired. They are warned by radio, the senior guard is the “51st”. He is almost always next to the boss, they communicate directly. They can write him something on his phone. 51st radios everyone. For example, “26” is an exit from home. If they said “26,” we should be in our cars. There is a procession of three cars. The boss has an armored Cadillac, we have regular ones.

The boss is the kind of person who can, in a club where everyone is dancing, approach security and say, “Let them turn down the music.” If you don’t agree, you’re fired. If you want, beat this DJ, if you want, take control yourself. And we turned the music down. But not at the cost of a fight.

— Does the person you were babysitting often give interviews?

“No, there’s an article about him on Wikipedia, but he doesn’t appear on camera,” Golub told .
