2016 Olympic Champion Yevgeny Tishchenko told that he encountered many difficulties during the ascent of Elbrus.
Olympic champion 2016 Tishchenko will meet German Leon Hart on December 9 in Dubai at the IBA Night of Champions tournament in a fight for the vacant WBA belt in a new weight category (up to 101.6 kg). In August, the Russian climbed Elbrus.
— Were there times when you thought, “Damn, why did I sign up for this”?
— There were just difficulties. Let’s start with the fact that I’m tired of getting ready. We went up to four thousand, stayed there for a few days, and I didn’t sleep well one night. It is difficult to sleep at altitude. We did some adaptation walks… Everything was as it should be. We simply climbed without a tour, but ourselves with guides. And the fact that I wasn’t sleeping at night made it difficult for me. Plus, they told me I was too big for that. I’m tall and have a lot of muscle mass, and I’ve been told that my build makes it difficult to go up hills. Muscle mass needs oxygen, which is in short supply. And I didn’t feel very good on the Diagon Shelf… I lay face down in the snow for a few minutes and mentally recovered. Then it was easier – I understood that I would succeed. But sometimes it wasn’t very good. Maybe if they had said, “Come back,” I might have listened. It was sometimes very difficult for me. I had to surpass myself. And now I understand how much I would have regretted it if I had turned around at that moment,” Tishchenko told .
Tishchenko, 32, has 12 victories and one defeat in the professional ring. In the previous fight, the Russian boxer defeated Belgian Yves Ngabu at the RCC Boxing Promotions tournament in May in Yekaterinburg. Hart has a record of 22 wins, five losses and one draw.
The “IBA Champions Night” tournament will be broadcast live on the channel, starting December 9 at 10:00 p.m. Moscow time.
