2016 Olympic Champion Yevgeny Tishchenko told that he had been offered to play for Kazakhstan at a professional level.
On December 9 in Dubai at the IBA Night of Champions tournament, Tishchenko will meet German Leon Hart in a fight for the vacant WBA belt in a new weight category (up to 101.6 kg). In the final of the 2016 Games, Tishchenko defeated Vasily Levit of Kazakhstan.
“I’ll be honest, after the Olympics I read the comments and I was worried about it. These comments were read by relatives and friends. And now I have gained experience. And I have so many fans from Kazakhstan, they immediately see all the information about me, the news comes out almost before everyone else (smiles).
— When will you fight in Kazakhstan? This certainly wouldn’t go unnoticed.
— Besides, that would be very interesting. Now someone is fighting for Armenia (in order to have the opportunity to box abroad and appear in the rankings). So they told me that if it wasn’t for Armenia, I could try to play for Kazakhstan. But I defend Russia. Thank God I will represent Russia in the championship fight. This is a very important event in today’s realities.
— Are you planning to enter into battle with the Russian flag?
– If there is such an opportunity, I will definitely go out. It doesn’t depend on me,” Tishchenko told .
Tishchenko, 32, has 12 victories and one defeat in the professional ring. In the previous fight, the Russian boxer defeated Belgian Yves Ngabu at the RCC Boxing Promotions tournament in May in Yekaterinburg. Hart has a record of 22 wins, five losses and one draw.
The “IBA Champions Night” tournament will be broadcast live on the channel, starting December 9 at 10:00 p.m. Moscow time.
