Two boxers crossed paths in an unexpected place to meet
British Derek Chisora (32-12, 23 KOs) spoke about an unexpected meeting with the WBA, WBO and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) in one of the baths in London.
“It was very funny. When I get tired, I go to the bath. When I finished all the procedures, the owner of the bath, Alex, asked: ‘Are you going home? Give me a minute’.
“I sat on the couch and heard: ‘Derrrrek’. It was Usyk. I talked to him, asked him what was new. He looked tired. He said: ‘I’m tired, I’ve been swimming for five hours’. It was nice to meet him.”
Chisora fought Usyk in October 2020, losing to the Ukrainian via unanimous decision. The Briton claimed the WBC heavyweight championship belt, but in 2012 he lost in the title fight to the Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko.
Usyk’s second fight against Joshua will take place on August 20 in Saudi Jeddah. WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles will be at stake.
Chisora on the night of July 9-10 will fight against Kubrat Pulev in London. This will be the second fight between the boxers. In May 2016, Kubrat defeated the Briton by split decision.
