The WBC Board of Governors decided to place Ngannou in 10th place in the division after his debut in the boxing arena
Former champion UFC Francis Ngannou spoke about the fight on the night of October 29 in Riyadh, in which he lost to WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury by split decision. Let us remember that in the third round Francis knocked down Tyson, but the Briton managed to return to the fight.
“I came there to fight and win. He’s a champion. I had to go after him. I wasn’t going to fit in with him. My plan for the fight was not to adjust and try to survive. I came there to fight, win and dictate my own terms.”
“That was the plan for the fight. To realize it, I had to chase my opponent,” Ngannou said.
Fury defeated Ngannou to win the Riyadh title. The fight, according to boxing rules, lasted all the allotted 10 rounds, following which Fury won by split decision: two judges gave him the victory with scores of 95–94 and 96–93, and the third – 95–94 in favor of Ngannou.
Many celebrities in the boxing world (Derek Chisora, Deontay Wilder, promoter Eddie Hearn) believe that it was Ngannou who deserved to win this fight.
Given the French-Cameroonian debutant’s “outstanding job” against the illustrious British champion, the WBC Board of Governors decided to place Ngannou at number 10 in the division.
In recent weeks, there have been active discussions about options for continuing Ngannou’s boxing career – for example, his theoretical fight against Wilder or Anthony Joshua.
