All relevant documents will be sent to the IBA within the next week
Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU) appealed to the Board of Directors of the International Boxing Federation (IBA) with a proposal to hold an extraordinary congress of the organization in Lvov.
According to FBU President Volodymyr Prodivus, holding the event in Ukraine will provide serious support to the country during the military invasion of the Russian Federation.
“We approached the board of directors of the International Boxing Federation with the idea of holding the IBA Congress and presidential elections in Ukraine. We hope that in this way the IBA will demonstrate support for Ukraine at this difficult time.”
“We hope that the colleagues of the International Boxing Association will support our initiative and hold the Congress in Lviv. This is a safe and picturesque place, which is the cradle of Ukrainian statehood.”
Prodivus also added that all relevant documents on holding the congress in Ukraine will be sent to the IBA within the next week.
Recall that the Dutch functionary Boris van der Voorst and a number of other candidates were not allowed to participate in the elections due to campaigning outside the election period. However, CAS found that re-elected IBA President Umar Kremlev was guilty of the same violation, but he was not removed from the election.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has already granted van der Voorst’s appeal against the BIIU’s decision to bar him from running for president of the International Boxing Association.
In May, Kremlev was re-elected president of the IBA. He was the only candidate in the elections. Recall that the President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine Volodymyr Prodivus joined the Board of Directors of the IBA.
Earlier, van der Voorst demanded from the IBA a more decisive response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the disclosure of financial statements under the sponsorship agreement with Russia’s Gazprom.
The Kremlin has already proposed re-election to the post of head of the organization. At the same time, the current head of the organization believes that he can improve the future of boxing.
The IBA is an independent organization that sanctioned boxing at the amateur level. Founded in 1946.
