“He allowed minors to participate in a sporting event without mandatory equipment in the form of a boxing helmet, which did not meet the safety requirements for minor athletes,” the court decision said.
The court did not establish any circumstances aggravating the sentence imposed on Zlivko. At the same time, the court recognized the following circumstances mitigating Zlivko’s sentence: full admission of his guilt and repentance for what he had done; the presence of young children with the attacker; provide assistance to the victim immediately after the incident; provide material assistance to the mother of the deceased and voluntary compensation for moral damage, express condolences to the victim and moral support; the opinion of the victim who asked the court for leniency towards the accused.
The tragedy occurred in June 2023 in Belogorsk. The event organizer, who is also the chief referee of the fights, allowed two minors to fight without protective helmets, which are mandatory in the 16 to 17 age group. A 16-year-old athlete who suffered a severe blow to the head died in intensive care. Previously, Zlivko was deprived of his judge’s license and resigned as president of the federation.
