The father of Usik’s future opponent believes that his son is surrounded by unprofessionals, and therefore the advantage is on the side of the Ukrainian
John Furyfather of the WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Furyfears his son is not adequately preparing for his undisputed world title fight against the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight title holder Alexandra Usika.
“I never said my son was on the decline, because he wasn’t. It’s the people around him who aren’t particularly up to par. His training is in disarray, and his training camp is in even greater disrepair. This is not a camp, this is a circus.”
“I saw him in the gym in Saudi Arabia, saw him sparring three or four rounds with a couple of guys – then I knew it was [бой против Нганну] there will be hard night work. I thought, ‘What are you doing?’” I was worried, and I still am.”
“He needs to get back the eye of the tiger, go back to the old ways and feel the hunger – through sweat, blood, shit and tears. Because Usyk does it through sweat, blood, shit and tears. And he has disciplined, professional and wonderful people around him, and I don’t think Tyson has those. Not really”.
“Does it bother me that Tyson might suffer his first professional defeat? Absolutely. If he doesn’t make any changes, this could very well happen.”
Previously, former world champion in two categories, Billy Joe Saunders, spoke in a similar vein. Back in November, he advised the “Gypsy King” to change his environment and “recruit a normal team.”
The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the fight was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh. However, it later became clear that the “Gypsy King” would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
