A criminal case has been opened regarding the death of a teenager during a boxing competition in the Sverdlovsk region, the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee reports.
The competition took place on December 16 and 17 in Pervouralsk. During the final fight on Sunday, the teenager lost consciousness after missing several punches from his opponent. Paramedics who arrived on scene attempted to take the victim to a medical facility, but the teenager died on the way before reaching the hospital.
— In order to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy, the investigative department of the city of Pervouralsk of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence). During the investigation, witnesses are questioned, necessary examinations are ordered and documents relating to verification of athletes’ admission to competitions are examined. The causes and conditions that led to the tragedy are being clarified and a set of measures will be taken to prevent such circumstances from recurring in the future,” the statement said.
