The holder of the WBC and WBA belts has already been released from custody
WBA and WBC super middleweight world champion Jermell Charlo was arrested Saturday on assault charges.
It is reported that the boxer has already been released from prison. Details of the incident remain unknown. According to media reports, Charlo allegedly attacked one of his family members.
Let us remind you that Charlo previously lost the WBO junior middleweight championship belt, which he was supposed to defend in a fight with Tim Tszyu. This happened with the first bell for Jermell’s fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on October 1st. For the sake of this fight, Charlo refused the fight with Tim Tszyu, moved up two weight categories – and ultimately lost to Alvarez by unanimous decision.
Jermell was later stripped of his IBF title. Charlo refused to defend his title against mandatory challenger Bakhram Murtazaliev of Russia.
