Wilder: I’ll be back, but if not, that was great.

Wilder unexpectedly lost to Parker and called into question the spring fight against Joshua

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in an interview after a fight lost on points Joseph Parkerhinted at his likely retirement from boxing.

“We’ll see what happens. We still have some left, but I did a great job. I’m a happy fighter. I’ll be back, and if not, it was really great. Don’t know [есть ли во мне тот же огонь, что и раньше]in many ways I have calmed down.”

“I wore that smile all week and will continue to smile. Nothing can stop me,” Deontay said.

Let us remember that in one of the two main fights of the “Day of Reckoning” boxing evening in Riyadh on the night of December 23-24, 38-year-old American Wilder lost to 31-year-old New Zealander Parker by unanimous decision.

For Wilder, today’s fight was the first in more than a year. The American fought his previous fight in October 2022, knocking out Robert Helenius in the first round.

Wilder’s defeat casts doubt on the fight between the American and Anthony Joshua. It was reported that the boxers agreed to fight on March 9, but for the event to take place, they had to defeat their opponents on the “Day of Reckoning”. Deontay no longer coped with his task.

Later, AJ confidently dealt with Otto Wallin in the main event of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia.
