The mentor is satisfied with the work done by his mentee
Andy Lee trainer of former world heavyweight champion New Zealander Joseph Parkercommented on the performance of his ward as part of the “Day of Reckoning” in Riyadh against Deontay Wilder.
“Last year at this time, Joseph was in the worst position of his career. We lost to Joe Joyce not too long ago, but Parker showed mental strength and skill. The guy kept his head down, dug deeper and trained harder.”
“After losing last year, no one gave us a chance, but Joseph just beat Deontay Wilder in 12 rounds. He outplayed the guy in every round. That’s who Joseph Parker is,” Lee said.
In one of the two main fights of the “Day of Reckoning” boxing evening in Riyadh on the night of December 23-24, 31-year-old Parker defeated 38-year-old American Wilder by unanimous decision – 118:111, 118:110, 120:108. After the defeat, Wilder hinted at his possible retirement from boxing.
Parker fought his fourth fight in 2023. He previously defeated Jack Massey, Faiga Opela and Simon Keane.
