UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev recognized as the best fighter in the world in 2023 according to ESPN, reports the channel’s website.
In 2023, the 32-year-old Russian made two successful defenses of his title in fights with Australian Alexander Volkanovski, and also rose to first place in the ranking of the best UFC fighters, regardless of category weight.
In addition, ESPN recognized Makhachev’s first fight with Volkanovski as the best of the year. The fight took place on February 11 in Perth, Australia and lasted five rounds, after which the judges gave victory to Makhachev by unanimous decision.
The Russian’s professional record is 25 victories and one defeat. He is also a double Russian champion (2014, 2016) and winner of the combat sambo world championship (2016).
