AJ lost to Alexander twice
Ben Davisoncoach of former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshuastated his desire to prepare the Briton for a possible third fight with Alexander Usik. The specialist believes that AJ will defeat the Ukrainian champion.
“It may sound selfish, but I would like to have the opportunity to do everything right in the fight with Usyk. I don’t know if this is a real possibility, but I would like to help Joshua win. I truly believe that I can help Anthony turn things around. I have no doubt that we can do this.”
Joshua and Usyk had two fights with each other. In September 2021, Alexander won by unanimous decision and became the new WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion. In August 2022, a rematch took place – the Ukrainian won a split decision.
In the last fight, AJ confidently defeated Otto Wallin, who was unable to continue the fight after the 5th round. Joshua’s potential opponents include Filip Hrgovic, Joseph Parker, Zhang Zhilei and Deontay Wilder.
Usik will next fight with WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury. The unification bout is officially scheduled for February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
