MMA fighter of Chechen origin Khamzat Chimaev said he should get a title fight with the winner of the fight between American Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis of South Africa.
“Strickland has a good opponent he’s fighting in Du Plessis, and if he beats this guy, we’ll 100% get the fight. I was promised this fight, so now we will wait to see who wins the fight, and then I will take the belt,” Chimaev said according to lowkickmma.com.
The middleweight title fight between Strickland and Du Plessis will take place at UFC 297 in Toronto on January 20.
Chimaev competes in the UFC in two weight categories: up to 77 and up to 84 kg. Currently, the 29-year-old fighter represents the United Arab Emirates; he has previously competed under the Swedish flag.
