On Tuesday, former contender for the WBC heavyweight belt, boxer Kevin Johnson, received Russian citizenship. The corresponding decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin was published on the official legal information portal.
“Through his career, Johnson deserves to represent Russia’s interests on the international stage. His performances under the flag of the Russian Federation should benefit our sport,” Titov told correspondent.
Johnson turned to Putin on April 1, 2023, with a request to obtain a Russian passport. The boxer submitted all the necessary documents to Samara. It is also known that Johnson, 44, chose Vladimirovich as his middle name.
Johnson has 35 wins, 21 losses and two draws in the professional ring. During his career, the American boxed with Vitali Klitschko, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Andy Ruiz, Kubrat Pulev, Derek Chisora and many others. Johnson last entered the ring in December 2023.
