UFC lightweight champion of Russia Islam Makhachev declared his desire to fight with the American Justin Gaethje in June.
In 2023, 32-year-old Makhachev made two successful defenses of his title in fights with Australian Alexander Volkanovski, and also rose to first place in the ranking of the best UFC fighters, regardless of category weight.
