The World Taekwondo Federation expanded the admission of Russian athletes to competitions

The World Taekwondo Federation has expanded the admission of Russian athletes to competitions with a neutral status, according to the organization’s website.

The World Taekwondo Council has allowed Russians to participate in tournaments recognized by the organization, provided that the athletes have already been deemed eligible to participate in competitions organized by the world taekwondo, in accordance with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ).

Previously, Russians were not allowed to participate in world-recognized taekwondo tournaments due to the complexity of the eligibility process.

In March last year, the IOC Executive Committee recommended that international federations, if Russians are admitted to competitions, do so individually, in a neutral status, without participating in team events, and also exclude the participation of athletes associated with law enforcement. Russian athletes participated in the 2023 World Championships.
