American boxer Kevin Johnson spoke about his feelings after obtaining Russian citizenship and also admitted that he always wanted to live in Russia.
Johnson was granted Russian citizenship by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. The American addressed Putin on April 1, 2023, asking him to obtain a Russian passport. Earlier it was reported that the 44-year-old boxer submitted the necessary documents to Samara and chose his middle name Vladimirovich.
“I always wanted to live in Russia, but I had custody of my daughter, so the time was not right for me to move here, because I would have to move her too. As a single father, it was already extremely difficult for me. But now, the time has come: my daughter is twenty-five years old, she is already an adult and independent. I spoke to my promoter Vladimir (Khryunov). We coordinated everything carefully. And go for it!
How did you feel when you received your passport? It’s like I was born again. I immediately called my mother and said, “Cancel my birth certificate. My new birthday is January 9,” Johnson told RT.
In the professional ring, Johnson has 35 victories, 21 defeats and two draws.
