The court remanded the bronze medalist from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in custody. Vladimir Nikitin arrested for extortion of 300,000 rubles, the press service of the Syktyvkar city court reported.
The 33-year-old athlete, who lives in Syktyvkar, will remain in detention until February 23.
— The court granted the request of the investigating authorities to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to Nikitin Vladimir Olegovich, accused of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art . 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (extortion of funds belonging to the victim, under the threat of violence and with the use of violence in order to obtain large sums of money). By court decision dated January 11, 2024, Vladimir Olegovich Nikitin was placed in detention for a period of 1 month 15 days, i.e. until February 23, 2024, the press release specifies.
Nikitin is a bronze medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games in the weight category up to 56 kg, as well as a silver medalist of the 2013 World Championship and a bronze medalist of the 2013 European Championship in the same weight. For his outstanding sporting achievements, Nikitin was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Master of Sports of Russia”, as well as the medal “For Services to the Fatherland” of the second degree.
