Briton Callum Smith could be in the lead in the fight with Artur Beterbiev but in the end the WBC, WBO, IBF champion will achieve victory and prove that he is the best in the light heavyweight division, says Russian boxer Umar Salamov.
Beterbiev will defend his titles against WBC mandatory challenger Smith on January 13 in Quebec, Canada. Beterbiev, 38, has 19 early victories in 19 fights. Smith has 29 victories and one defeat, which he suffered in December 2020 against Mexican Saul Alvarez. Then the Briton lost his WBA super middleweight belt and moved up to light heavyweight.
– This is a very competitive matchup in which Smith could win. But in the end, this war will be won by Beterbiev. Despite his age, Arthur is the strongest light heavyweight in the world,” Salamov told .
The WBA light heavyweight belt is held by another Russian, Dmitry Bivol, with whom Salamov boxed in December 2021. Then, Bivol won by unanimous decision. Salamov’s next fight will take place on February 24 in Moscow with his compatriot Igor Mikhalkin for the Eurasian Boxing Parliament (EBP) belt.
