Russian Artur Beterbiev completely controlled the course of the fight with Briton Callum Smith at a tournament in Canada, former WBC Silver lightweight belt holder Zaur Abdullaev told .
On Sunday evening Moscow time, in Quebec, Canada, Beterbiev defeated Briton Callum Smith by technical knockout in the seventh round and defended the WBC, IBF, WBO light heavyweight belts. The Russian now has 20 early victories in 20 fights in the professional ring. Former WBA super middleweight champion Smith suffered his second career defeat and first knockout. Previously, the Briton lost to Mexican Saul Alvarez by unanimous decision in December 2020. The WBA light heavyweight champion is another Russian, Dmitry Bivol.
– A very good fight for Beterbiev – a brilliant finish, as I expected. It was clear that Beterbiev immediately took the initiative in the fight, even if he sometimes let Smith work. The opponent was also clumsy, he moved a lot, but Arthur controlled everything and brought him to KO. Now the most important plot is the fight with Bivol. They are both stylistically opposites: one is powerful, the other more technical, both are undefeated. Everyone is looking forward to this fight,” Abdullaev told .
