Russian fighter Alexander Shlemenko said the RCC League was in talks with Magomed Ismailov about arranging their rematch for March, but the Bald Predator decided to compete at the ASA.
On Saturday evening it became known that Ismailov signed a contract with ASA. The fighter will take part in a middleweight fight as part of the March tournament dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the league. The opponent has not yet been announced.
— I knew that Ismailov was negotiating with ASA, RCC was negotiating with him about our revenge in March. I agreed to fight him in March, the RCC was waiting for a response from Magomed. He made his choice, decided to go to ASA. Tactically, this is a wise decision on Magomed’s part, it’s really not the time for him to fight me, because there is a big risk of falling and even more people will see this than watched our first fight. Our first fight broke the Russian record for viewing live broadcasts on social networks. And I doubt that Ismailov, with any other opponent, could come close to this feat. It is clear that now Magomed thinks he is on top of the world, that he can dictate the terms and that with each fight he will be worth more. But reality very cruelly interrupts those who begin to think this way. “I wish Magomed to remain relevant for our revenge,” Shlemenko said, as quoted by the RCC press service.
In ASA, Ismailov fought 4 fights, defeating Vyacheslav Vasilevsky, Artem Frolov, Ivan Shtyrkov and Alexander Emelianenko. In December 2022, Ismailov defeated Shlemenko at the RCC tournament by unanimous decision. This was Ismailov’s last official MMA fight. Shlemenko has performed periodically at RCC since 2018. In his last fight in December 2023, Shlemenko defeated Serbian Alexander Ilic ahead of schedule in a rematch at the RCC tournament.
