Former world boxing champion Dmitry Kudryashov commented on the victory Artur Beterbiev against the Briton Callum Smith.
On Saturday in Canada, Beterbiev defeated Smith by seventh-round technical knockout and defended the WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight world titles. The 38-year-old Russian now has 20 victories (20 by KO) and no defeats.
—Did you expect more from Smith in this fight?
“I said before the fight that Smith’s hope of a punch was on the left side in response. Once the Lucky Punch happens, it will be dangerous. And he didn’t understand how he could win. There is no front hand, no good movement, like the same Dmitry Bivol. There’s nothing like Arthur inside. He couldn’t use the crown – he only grabbed it at the beginning, but without it there is no boxing. Beterbiev crushed Smith not only mentally, but also physically.
— Fight analysts write that Beterbiev was improving from round to round, but now he was taking breaks to rest. Is this so?
– I didn’t see that. It seems to me that Arthur, on the contrary, began to systematically do his job and finished it, forcing Smith’s corner to give up the fight.
— Bivol coach Gennady Mashyanov noted that during the final blow, Beterbiev hit the back of his head. Was there a blow to the back of the head?
– This is professional boxing. Even if it happened somewhere, I don’t think it’s a violation of the rules or something that can be detected,” Kudryashov said, as quoted by RB Sport.
