Sharif Mazoriev failed to beat his titled Thai opponent

In his ONE debut, Kemerovo fighter Sharif Mazoriev lost by unanimous decision to Thailand’s Kongtorani Sor Sommai at ONE Friday Fights 48.

The fighters fought in the Muay Thai flyweight division. The fight took place on January 19 at the Lumphini Stadium in Bangkok.

Before entering the fight, Kongtorani had 66 victories and 15 defeats, he twice won the title of champion of the Rajademnen Stadium. Mazoriev, 25 years old, owns the title of champion of Russia and Europe in Muay Thai, as well as the title of master of sports.

The Russian won the public’s approval by performing the traditional Wai Kru dance before the fight, which shows respect for Muay Thai traditions and coaches. But from the start of the first three minutes, Kongtorani showed that he was on his territory. The Thai fighter, now 27, began training Muay Thai at the age of six and has spent most of his life in training camps and in the professional ring.

In the first round, Mazoriev attacked Kongtorani using striking techniques. He managed to land a blow to his opponent’s head, but Kongtorani immediately took the initiative and dominated throughout the three rounds of the fight.

Midway through the fight, Kongtorani pressed Mazoriev against the ropes, where he continued to follow his script. Towards the end of the fight, the Thai knocked down Mazoriev twice with a flurry of punches and a powerful elbow from the clinch. Mazoriev’s face was cut, but he showed strength of character and held on until the final gong. Kongtorani won by unanimous decision and improved his record to 67-15-1.
