The Ukrainian suffered his first defeat in the professional rankings
Ukrainian boxer Artem Dalakyan lost to the Japanese Seyigo Akuyi in a fight for the WBA world bantamweight title. The fight took place in Japan.
At the beginning of the fight, the Japanese boxer was more active, throwing a large number of punches and moving forward towards the Ukrainian. Dalakyan tried to counterattack and often worked on the body.
Towards the middle of the fight, the Ukrainian boxer leveled the situation, began to attack more often and delivered several accurate side blows. In the sixth round, Akuyi seriously shocked Dalakyan several times and again took the initiative.
Until the end of the fight and in the championship rounds, the Japanese boxer did not stop, continued to act better and more active than the Ukrainian, delivered accurate blows and looked much more convincing.
At the end of twelve rounds, all judges gave the victory to Akuya: 116:112, 117:111 119:109.
For Dalakyan, this was the seventh defense of the title and the first unsuccessful one – the Ukrainian suffered his first defeat in the professional ring with 22 victories. Akuyi scored his 19th victory and became the new WBA world bantamweight champion.
36-year-old Dalakyan became world champion in 2018. Artem had his last fight in January 2023 against Costa Rican David Jimenez. The fight lasted all 12 rounds, the judges unanimously gave the victory to the Ukrainian.
