Minister of Sports of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Denis Petrovsky told that the large number of countries participating in the Ivan Yarygin freestyle wrestling tournament is important for the region.
XXXV tournament Ivan Iarygina will be held in Krasnoyarsk from January 25 to 28.
— The 35th Ivan Yarygin tournament will take place in 2024, it has become the trademark of the region. Several important developments have taken place this year that set it apart from previous years. Firstly, the organizing committee for the preparation of the tournament was headed by the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Mikhail Kotyukov, which provides the status of a sporting event, as well as the effectiveness of solving organizational issues. Thanks to this, a larger number of tournament partners appeared, which made it possible to increase the prize pool, including thanks to the participation of United World of Wrestling Vice President Natalya Yarygina.
Second important point: to date, we have confirmed the participation of 23 countries and the Russian team. On the current international agenda, the Ivan Yarygin tournament is one of the rare sporting events in which so many countries participate. For us, such representation of countries is of great importance. There are no tourists among the participants, the champions and winners of the national championship and the winners of the world championship will come to Iran. It is not for nothing that in previous years the tournament was called the Little World Championship. I am happy that we are now restoring this status to the event, despite all the difficulties.
The tournament has historical and educational value, Yarygin’s image is an example to follow among young people. At the end of last year, we visited Ivan’s small homeland – the village of Sizaya in the Shushensky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Our group included Natalya Yarygina, three-time Olympic champion Alexander Karelin and director of the Russian National Team Sports Training Center Georgy Bryusov. Students of academies and titled athletes gave master classes and a museum exhibition was organized.
