The story of Alexander and Tyson may continue
The president WBC Mauricio Sulaiman announced an agreement for rematch between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO versions Alexander Usik after their head-to-head confrontation for the title of absolute world champion.
“We’ll see what happens next. There are serious fights. However, the WBC has already sanctioned a rematch between Usyk and Fury. We received the request and agreed to it. Our position is based only on the agreement of the promoters. If anything changes, we will definitely provide information.”
The Usyk-Fury fight will officially take place on February 17. The title of absolute heavyweight champion will be at stake. The event will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The special guest of the event will be Lennox Lewis.
Both boxers are actively preparing for a head-to-head confrontation. In the Ukrainian camp are compatriot Vladimir Katsuk, Serbian Sanel Hasanovic, German Emanuel Odiase and experienced Pole Mariusz Wach.
The undercard of the Usyk-Fury fight will feature former IBF world cruiserweight champion Jay Opetaya, 19-year-old Moses Ithauma and IBF world super featherweight champion Joe Cordina.
Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
