Vice President of the Russian MMA Union Andrei Terentyev explained to the circumstances of the death of an 18-year-old athlete during the mixed martial arts championship of the Kirov region.
Previously, the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Kirov region announced that an investigation was underway into the death of a fighter during the competition on January 26. The athlete died from head trauma sustained during a fight. He received first aid, but the victim died in the ambulance.
— On Sunday I will be in Kirov, there will be a meeting with the Minister of Sports on this situation, a commission has already been created. But I would like to say that all the certificates are there, all the judges are approved. The ambulance was there. Unlike the emergency situation that occurred in Blagoveshchensk, everything was observed here, but it is impossible to insure against accidents. He is a student of the president of the federation, he held the second fight, they fought on the ground, there was no pain, no suffocation, simply because of the lack of activity, the judge noted the athletes: one stood up, and the second did not. We are waiting for the doctors’ conclusions,” Terentyev told .
Representatives of the Kirov MMA Federation declined to comment.
