Russian judoist Danil Lavrentiev told that he was preparing intensively for the Portuguese Grand Prix and was determined only to win.
Lavrentiev, competing in the weight category up to 73 kg, defeated Spaniard Salvador Roca in the final and won the gold medal.
— I prepared very hard for this tournament, I only came for gold. I went out definitely not to give up, I was ready to die, you could say, on this mat.
I am very happy with this victory. I have never been first in a Grand Slam tournament, I have only one medal, second place and now gold, I am very happy,” Lavrentiev said on the air of the show “Everyone for the match!”
The Portuguese Grand Prix will end on January 28. Russian judokas participate in the tournament in neutral status.
