On September 18, at the World Championships in Belgrade, due to injury, Sadulaev could not complete the semi-final in the weight category up to 97 kilograms with the native of Dagestan Akhmed Tazhudinov, representing Bahrain. The Russian was supposed to fight for the bronze medal, but doctors removed Sadulayev from the competition. On September 22, the athlete underwent surgery in Moscow.
