Malignaggi: Kambosos does not have enough skills to fight Lomachenko

The fight is scheduled for May 12 in Australia

Former world champion Paul Malignaggi believes that the Australian George Kambosos did not deserve a title fight against a former world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko.

“Personally, I don’t think Kambosos has the skills for this fight and I don’t think he will win the fight. He was well positioned for retirement with one win over Teofimo Lopez and a few checks. He thought through this part of the business very well.”

“I don’t think Kambosos is competitive given his recent form. I just can’t imagine it being like that. George has become irrelevant since beating Teofimo Lopez. He should not participate in the fight with Lomachenko”

“I have no problems with the upcoming fight between George Kambosos and Vasyl Lomachenko. I just don’t think this should be a world title fight. Especially in the lightweight division, where there are several good fighters that I would rank above Kambosos. I’m happy for him that he got that check.”

The title fight for the vacant IBF lightweight belt between Kambosos and Lomachenko will take place on May 12. The event is planned in Perth, Australia.

Lomachenko fought his last fight in May 2023, losing to Devin Haney in the fight for the title of absolute world champion. Many experts then considered that the result of the fight was unfair. After the defeat, Vasily decided to take a vacation until the end of the year.

In his last fight, Kambosos defeated Briton Maxie Hughes to win the IBO lightweight title.
