Dutch van der Voorst will try to win the presidential election from the Russian Kremlin
Extraordinary Congress of the International Boxing Federation (IBA) will take place in Yerevan. The event will take place from September 24 to October 1.
The congress will elect the head of the IBA. At a similar event in Istanbul in May, Russian Umar Kremlev was re-elected president, but the election was flawed. They did not allow the main rival, the Dutchman Boris van der Voorst.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Boxing Federation (FBU) applied to the IBA Board of Directors with a proposal to hold an extraordinary congress of the organization in Lviv. According to FBU President Volodymyr Prodivus, hosting the event in Ukraine would provide serious support to the country during the military invasion of the Russian Federation.
Recall that the Dutch functionary Boris van der Voorst and a number of other candidates were not allowed to participate in the elections due to campaigning outside the election period. However, CAS found that re-elected IBA President Umar Kremlev was guilty of the same violation, but he was not removed from the election.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has already granted van der Voorst’s appeal against the BIIU’s decision to bar him from running for president of the International Boxing Association.
