“I have not yet become a good boxer, but I am recognized as the best” – Beterbiev about the prize of the Russian Boxing Federation

WBC, WBO, IBF light heavyweight champion Arthur Beterbiev said he was very happy to be recognized by the Russian Boxing Federation.

Beterbiev was recognized as the best professional boxer of 2023. The presentation of awards to the winners based on the results of the past year took place on Friday, at the end of the first day of the All-Russian Boxing Forum in Serpukhov.

In 2023, Beterbiev beat Briton Anthony Yarde by eighth-round technical knockout in London in January. And already in January this year, the 39-year-old Russian in Quebec defeated another British boxer, Callum Smith, by technical knockout in the seventh round.

“I hold back my emotions in any situation, but I am sincerely happy.” The population of Russia is almost 150 million, and you are recognized as the best boxer. It’s really good. I’m a little embarrassed… I haven’t become a good boxer yet, but I was recognized as the best in 2023,” reports correspondent, reporting Beterbiev’s words.

Beterbiev has 20 first victories in 20 fights in the professional ring. Negotiations are currently underway to organize a fight for the absolute world light heavyweight title between Beterbiev and another Russian WBA champion Dmitry Bivol. The fight is expected to take place in Saudi Arabia, with June 1 set as the tentative date. Bivol was recognized by the Russian Boxing Federation as the best boxer of 2022.
