Alexander does not despair of the news about the cancellation of the megafight with Fury
WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik commented on the cancellation of the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion with the WBC champion Tyson Fury.
“Dear friends, have a nice, beautiful, incredible day everyone. I’m having an incredible Saturday. I’ve already done all the work and now I’m resting a little.”
“Friends, difficulties are given to us so that we can overcome them. And if we whine when it’s difficult for us, we’ll just whine. All the best, let’s move on.”
Let us remind you that the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion was supposed to take place in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, on February 17. The special guest of the event was Lennox Lewis. The undercard featured fights between former IBF cruiserweight world champion Jay Opetai, 19-year-old Moses Itauma and IBF super featherweight world champion Joe Cordina.
Fury was injured during sparring. The Briton’s injury required stitches, due to which Tyson will not have time to recover for the fight with Usyk. According to British cutman Jorge Capetillo, the boxer will need at least three months to recover.
The Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al al-Sheikh, announced that the February 17 boxing evening in Riyadh has been canceled and purchased tickets will be refunded.
The Ukrainian team is thinking about replacing the opponent. A possible opponent for Usik instead of the injured Fury could be the mandatory contender for the IBF heavyweight belt, Filip Hrgovic.
