Khegay: I think that Lomachenko will not underestimate Kambosos as much as Teofimo Lopez

The fight between Lomachenko and Kambosos for the vacant IBF lightweight belt will take place on May 12

Ukrainian featherweight boxer Arnold Khegai commented on the upcoming title fight between the IBO lightweight world champion George Kambosos and former world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko.

“I think Lomachenko will still win. But, probably, the fans really were a little hasty in deciding that the title was already in Ukraine. I still think that Vasya will win. This is a very solid chance for him. And I’m also sure that on his part there will not be the same underestimation of Kambosos that Teofimo Lopez had.”

The fight between Lomachenko and Kambosos for the vacant IBF lightweight belt has been officially confirmed for May 12, 2024. The event, which also includes two undercard fights, will take place at the RAC Arena in Perth, starting approximately at 5 a.m. Kyiv time.

35-year-old Lomachenko fought his last fight in May 2023, losing to Devin Haney in the fight for the title of absolute world champion. Many experts then considered that the result of the fight was unfair. After the defeat, Vasily decided to take a vacation until the end of the year.

The 30-year-old Kambosos lost twice to the same Haney during 2022, losing the lightweight belts previously won from Teofimo Lopez. In his last fight, George defeated Briton Maxie Hughes to win the IBO lightweight title and become the IBF mandatory challenger.
