WBO World Super Lightweight Champion Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) retained his title by winning the title fight Jemaine Ortiz (17–1–1, 8 KOs).
The 12-round fight for the WBO belt took place in Las Vegas, America. The fight was evenly contested, but with a slight advantage for Lopez. Based on the results of the judges’ notes, Teofimo received a unanimous victory: 117–111, 115–113, 115–113.
In June, Teofimo announced that he was retiring from his boxing career and relinquishing his championship title. Later, the American changed his mind about leaving boxing and declared his readiness to defend his belt. Lopez managed to challenge the absolute world lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Before the head-to-head fight with Ortiz, Lopez defeated Briton Josh Taylor. Following the results of 12 rounds, the judges unanimously awarded the victory to the American – 115:113, 115:113 117:111. Ortiz himself defeated Mexican Antonio Moran in his last fight.
