Shakur Stevenson: We could have Lomachenko fight early next year

In July, the Ukrainian announced his readiness to return to the ring

American Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) and Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) may face each other in early 2023.

“We can definitely fight soon. After all, Lomachenko is a fighter with a name, and even from the top 10 “pound”. He deserves respect. I think we could organize a fight early next year. And now we compete in different weight categories. But he can come down to my weight and fight for my titles. It would be a big fight. And it seems to me that light weight is not his category. It seems to me that the second featherweight suits him much better, because we are about the same size with him, ”said Stevenson.

“Let them say that Lomachenko is an arrogant dude. But what do I care? I feel like I can beat anyone. So it doesn’t matter what it is. I’m ready to beat any dude on this planet. I feel like I can find a way to beat anyone.”

Earlier, WBC and WBO super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson said Lomachenko had little chance in his possible fight against Devin Haney.

On September 23 in Newark, Stevenson will fight against the Brazilian Robson Conceicao.

In May, Stevenson defeated Oscar Valdez by unanimous decision to unify the super featherweight belts. Shakur inflicted the first defeat of his career on the Mexican.

Lomachenko fought his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision.

Subsequently, Lomachenko could fight George Kambosos, but pulled out against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In July, the Ukrainian announced his readiness to return to the ring. It is expected that Vasily will fight his fight after a long pause in October.
