Usik’s manager explained why he considers the “Gypsy King” a coward and recalled the history of the postponement of his fight against the Ukrainian champion
Egis Klimasmanager of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Alexandra Usikaexplained in detail the reasons for his offensive attack towards the WBC champion Tyson Fury after he received a cut in sparring and the unification fight had to be postponed from February 17 to a later date.
“So I called Tyson a coward on social media. I meant that he is not afraid of a fight with Usyk. He can not. He is a professional fighter. He’s been in the ring so many times. He cannot be scared. But you know that most heavyweights are afraid to get into the ring. I won’t name them, but there are several of them.”
“But he is not afraid of Oleksandr Usyk. He’s afraid of losing to Oleksandr Usyk, that’s what he’s afraid of. He might not feel it, but it is what it is.”
“Listen, even if I called him names, he calls everyone pieces of shit, rats, blah blah blah. Who the hell does he think he is that he doesn’t deserve to be insulted in return?”
“Insulting Fury’s wife? It is not true. I didn’t call her names. I [сказал]that he has so many bitches in camp that one of them may have hit him with a frying pan. This is what I meant. But I would never say that to even my biggest enemy… I would never say anything about their wives. Again, if he thinks so, let him.”
“I think Tyson always backs down like that. When you try to make a fight for three years, you hit the same wall. He doesn’t agree, he doesn’t want this, he doesn’t want that – okay, let’s do 70 to 30, Usik will get 30 [процентов], you will get 70. Something is happening again, this is not what we want. Enough is enough.”
“Then we agreed that we would perform in Saudi Arabia. We left the room, shook hands and the deal was done. I thought this was the easiest deal we could make. Boom, we got a date. December 23, great. So we go see him fight. Oh he got it [синяк]. Therefore, we are moving the date to February 17th. A week before the trip to Saudi Arabia, two weeks before the fight, boom, he gets cut. What [еще] might come to my mind? Of course, all sorts of wild things come into my head,” Klimas concluded.
The fight between Usik and Fury for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion was supposed to take place in Riyadh on February 17. However, two weeks before the fight with Usik, the Britan was injured during a sparring with Agron Smakichi. The cut Tyson received required stitches. British cutman Jorge Capetillo suggested that the “Gypsy King” will need at least three months to recover.
After this, the chairman of the General Authority of Saudi Arabian Entertainment, Turki Al al-Sheikh, announced that the boxing evening on February 17 in Riyadh has been canceled and purchased tickets will be refunded.
Soon, the unification fight for the title of absolute world champion in heavyweight received a new date – Fury and Usyk should meet in the ring on May 18. The event, as before, will be hosted by the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million. At the same time, the contract for the fight between the Ukrainian and the British has a rematch clause.
